Rengo Participates in Moonshot Research and Development Program "Mitigation of Greenhouse Gas Emissions From Agricultural Lands by Optimizing Nitrogen and Carbon Cycles"
Rengo Co., Ltd. announces that it is participating in the Moonshot Research and Development Program "Realization of sustainable resource circulation to recover the global environment by 2050: Mitigation of Greenhouse Gas Emissions From Agricultural Lands by Optimizing Nitrogen and Carbon Cycles," where it is advancing research and development using spherical cellulose beads (Viscopearl).
This project aims to contribute to solving the global warming problem (Cool Earth) under Moonshot Goal 4. It also targets establishing and demonstrating circular technologies for addressing greenhouse gases from agricultural lands by 2030, and realizing a significant reduction in greenhouse gas N₂O (nitrous oxide) emissions from agricultural lands by 2050.
Rengo's Viscopearl possesses biodegradable and porous characteristics. While Rengo has developed a microorganism carrier and applications in the agricultural sector, this project has confirmed the suitability of Viscopearl as a carrier for immobilizing microorganisms that facilitate detoxification of N₂O, which is a gas with a global warming potential 265 times greater than CO₂.
Going forward, Rengo will continue to advance its development through this project by improving carriers and reducing costs to contribute to Cool Earth.Reference:
