Cleanup Training Conducted Along the Arakawa Riverbank

On November 6, 2025, a cleanup-based training program was conducted, proposed by young employees in the Development Promotion Department of the Chemical Products and Cellulose Products Development Group, which has set solving the marine plastic problem as one of its missions.
This training was also part of an initiative to encourage employees to adopt the mindset of making tomorrow better than today.
Through a litter collection activity, participants experienced firsthand how river pollution directly leads to ocean pollution. The program aimed to help participants connect this awareness to their daily work and link it to improved productivity.
First, to deepen environmental awareness and understanding of the significance of the activity, participants attended a lecture by a training support organization. They learned about the globally worsening waste problem and the current situation in which biodiversity is under threat.

Afterward, participants proceeded to collect litter along the riverbank. As the activity involved risk of potential injury, a hazard prediction lecture was conducted beforehand. Participants discussed various scenarios and carried out the activity with careful attention to safety.

A total of 24 participants collected approximately 120 kilograms of waste in one hour, including burnable waste, bottles, cans, and bulky waste.
Participants shared that even small amounts of littering by individuals can accumulate into large volumes of waste when carried to specific locations along riverbanks, and that they realized the importance of continuity in such efforts.
In addition, employees from various departments participated in this training, fostering a sense of unity through working toward a shared goal. It also provided an opportunity for deeper interaction across age groups and departments.
