Rengo Converts Fuel from Coal to Natural Gas at the Kanazu Mill

Rengo Co., Ltd. announces that it has shut down a coal-fired boiler at its Kanazu Mill in Awara City, Fukui Prefecture, a plant that produces containerboard, and has installed a liquefied natural gas (LNG) satellite facility and gas-fired cogeneration systems. As a result, the Mill has completely eliminated the use of coal and converted to the use of natural gas, enabling an expected reduction of approximately 120,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year.
The Rengo Group aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions based on its medium-term target, Eco Challenge 2030, which runs through fiscal year 2030. As part of the plan to achieve zero use of coal at manufacturing sites in Japan by fiscal year 2027, Marusan Paper Mfg. Co., Ltd., a member of the Rengo Group, will also convert its fuel to LNG, achieving a complete phase-out of coal.
The installation of these new facilities and the fuel conversion form part of the company’s long-term environmental goals and provide a foundation for further decarbonization. The company will continue to strategically introduce innovative technologies to support the realization of a sustainable society.
