Rengo Develops “REBIOS” New Packaging Material Which Will Help to Solve Problem of Ocean Plastic
Rengo Co., Ltd. announces the launch of “REBIOS,” a new series of packaging materials made from cellophane and paper produced at Rengo's Takefu Plant combined with biodegradable materials. REBIOS was designed to solve the problems of ocean plastics and microplastics.
REBIOS makes maximum use of cellophane and paper derived from biomass to achieve a high biomass content and high biodegradability. In addition, biodegradable resin is incorporated to enable heat sealing and make it moisture proof. REBIOS is suitable for a wide range of packaging applications including foods, consumer goods, apparel, and sanitary materials.
Rengo plans to expand the REBIOS series in the future, contributing to the development of a better and sustainable society through the production of high-quality and high value-added packaging while effectively using resources and reducing impact on the global environment.Rengo cellophane is a biomass-derived transparent film made from wood pulp. It has been certified as 95 percent biomass content and is eligible to display the biomass mark of the Japan Organics Recycling Association. It exhibits excellent biodegradability not just in soil, but in seawater as well. The extremely high biodegradability of Rengo cellphone was confirmed by Organic Waste Systems, a Belgium-based measurement agency, through biodegradability testing in ocean water.
