Rengo Announces the Start of Construction of
its Shin-Nagoya Plant
An Ideal Corrugated Plant that is People-Friendly and Environmentally ConsiderateRengo Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Kita-ku, Osaka; President & CEO: Kiyoshi Otsubo) announces that it has begun construction of its Shin-Nagoya Plant (Kasugai, Aichi Prefecture).
Rengo has long planned to rebuild its Nagoya Plant (Higashi-ku, Nagoya) on a replacement site due to the progressing urbanization of the surrounding area, as well as the plant's confined space and deterioration due to aging. A site was acquired for the new plant location at the Akechi East Industrial Park in Kasugai, Aichi Prefecture in June 2011. Although the company planned to begin construction in October of that year, the Rengo Group experienced enormous damage due to the Great East Japan Earthquake. Particular priority was placed on rebuilding the Sendai Plant (Miyagino-ku, Sendai), which suffered catastrophic damage. With unwavering support and assistance from everyone involved, a commencement ceremony was held on March 15, 2012—one year after the earthquake—at the Shin-Sendai Plant (Taiwa-cho, Kurokawa-gun, Miyagi Prefecture). Official operation at the Shin-Sendai Plant began in April and has continued smoothly since, marking one milestone for the Rengo Group's reconstruction after the earthquake. Therefore, in preparation for construction of the Shin-Nagoya Plant, a ceremony was held on November 2 to pray for safety.
Ample consideration has been given to the environment at the new plant, including the introduction of photovoltaic power generation systems. A rack-type, seismic isolated automated warehouse—the first at one of Rengo's corrugated plants—has also been installed in order to improve safety during distribution work and accomplish efficient inventory management. Through these measures, Rengo is seeking to create a people-friendly and environmentally considerate corrugated plant that is an ideal for the 21st century. The company aims to complete the plant an early stage so that it can serve as a central base for the Rengo Group in the Chubu region.
