Rengo to Achieve Zero Use of Coal toward Carbon Neutrality

Rengo Co., Ltd. announces that the Rengo Group will achieve zero use of coal at manufacturing sites in Japan by 2027. Currently, the Paperboard Production Group's Kanazu Mill and Marusan Paper Mfg. Co., Ltd. use a total of approximately 125,000 tons of coal each year. Kanazu Mill will convert to the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for fuel in 2026 and Marusan Paper Mfg. in 2027 to fully abolish the use of coal. This will move the Group significantly closer toward achieving the stated target for reduction in CO2 emissions derived from fossil energy.
The Rengo Group works to convert from city gas to LNG to increase the usage rate of greener fuels with low CO2 emissions. At the same time, efforts were also made to expand the utilization of renewable energy such as solar power and biomass. Under Eco Challenge 2030, with 2030 as the target year of achievement, the Group has set a target of reducing fossil energy-derived CO2 emissions by 46% compared to the levels in FY2013 toward the creation of a decarbonized society. The Group has also declared in Rengo Group Environment Action 2050 that it is taking on the challenge of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. In addition to the plan for zero use of coal, the Group will implement further environmental countermeasures to achieve carbon neutrality.
