Rengo Co., Ltd. announces that it will participate in the activities of the Blue Ocean Initiative (hereinafter “BOI”), which started in April 2023 and is an action platform aimed at balancing ocean conservation and prosperity.
BOI will have a booth in the Blue Ocean pavilion at the 2025 Japan International Exposition (Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan), and also plans a program of activities in which industry, government, academia, and the private sector will interact to discuss ocean conservation and the utilization of ocean resources, and take concrete actions to address related issues. In addition, in collaboration with the NIKKEI Blue Ocean Forum organized by Nikkei Group, the activities of the BOI will be widely publicized in the media such as Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
Until now, Rengo has been developing Viscopearl®, a material that is biodegradable in seawater and soil. It has obtained OK biodegradable MARINE certification, an international certification for marine biodegradability, and is expected to contribute to reducing ocean microplastic waste by replacing microplastic beads, which are used in a wide range of fields including resins, ink additives, and abrasives.
By participating the BOI, we will promote initiatives for marine conservation and climate change countermeasures through co-creation with even more partners.
