Rengo Co., Ltd. announces that its cellophane and Viscopearl, manufactured and sold by Rengo, have acquired the international certification "OK biodegradable SOIL," certifying their biodegradability in soil.
Both products are made from wood pulp, and cellophane is a transparent film and Viscopearl is a spherical cellulose bead. The products have been certified by TÜV AUSTRIA by meeting the requirements for being biodegradable to at least 90% within two years in soil or for showing a biodegradation degree of 90% or more against a reference substance (cellulose), and also by proving the safety of the degradation products to living organisms. They have already obtained the international certification "OK biodegradable MARINE," which certifies biodegradability in ocean water, and this is their second international certification.
Furthermore, they are products certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) (FSC-C119241), which take into consideration the environmental conservation of forests using certified forests and other low-risk raw materials, and have also received biomass mark certification (cellophane: No. 190262, biomass content 99.9%; Viscopearl: No. 230126, biomass content 100.0%). As materials that are degraded into water and carbon dioxide by microorganisms naturally (in soil and ocean water), they are expected to be used in a variety of applications.
Rengo is expanding its production facilities for both products and will continue to be committed to developing environmentally friendly products and ensuring their stable supply.
