    Rengo Obtains Science-Based Targets Approval

Rengo Co., Ltd. announces that it has obtained approval of a "1.5°C level" Science Based Target (SBT) from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), an international initiative.
The SBTi is an international organization jointly established by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the CDP (a not-for-profit charity that runs the global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states and regions to manage their environmental impacts), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The organization encourages companies to set science-based GHG reduction targets and carries out evaluation and approval.
In obtaining SBT approval, the Rengo Group's greenhouse gas reduction targets for 2030 is consistent with the greenhouse gas reduction target required by the Paris Agreement (limiting temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels) and has been evaluated and approved under the common criteria based on climate science.
Furthermore, Rengo is the first Japanese paper manufacturer in the prime market to obtain SBT approval.
Going forward, Rengo will continue to work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the entire Rengo Group by eliminating the use of coal, installing new biomass boilers, introducing solar power generation facilities, and promoting energy conservation by upgrading facilities.
