According to a survey made by William Hill & Sons of London, he made an estimated 1,116 instruments in the violin family, of which 604 are in existence today. According to another survey, still existing today are 540 violins, 12 violas, 50 cellos, five contrabasses (double basses), three mandolins, and six guitars and other instruments, for a total of 616.
